Cártama, 29 de enero de 2013. Year 8 ha estado estudiando en su clase de inglés sobre la vida y las obras de Charles Dickens. Ellos han escrito algunas historias de navidad maravillosas, inspiradas por la lectura y la observación de ‘A Christmas Carol’ (Un Cuento de Navidad).
Aquí tenéis una pequeña muestra de su trabajo:
“A veces miraba por las ventanas de otras familias e imaginaba cómo su vida podría ser. Toda su vida había estado solo “(Alonso)
‘El espíritu desapareció, y vio otro destello y se fue a la cama. Estaba aterrorizado, y dormía con un ojo abierto. “(Ryan)
“Fue la noche antes de Navidad, frío, y Valerie miró por la ventana, observando a dos niños que lanzan bolas de nieve. (Eli)
Realmente disfruté de leer estas historias. Muestran que los estudiantes tienen mucha imaginación y pueden crear cuentos de suspenso, visualmente descriptivos de los que el propio Dickens estaría orgulloso.
Una mención especial a Eli New, quien explicó, en un discurso para Year 7, por qué el trabajo de Dickens sigue siendo tan popular e importante: “.. él quería transmitir un mensaje serio, además de entretener a sus lectores .. ‘

Cártama, 29th January.In their English class this term, Year 8 have been studying the life and works of Charles Dickens. They have written some wonderful Christmas stories of redemption, inspired by reading and watching ‘A Christmas Carol’.
Here’s a small sample:
‘Sometimes he looked in other families´ windows and imagined how his life could be. All of his life he had been alone’ (Alonso)
‘The spirit disappeared, and he saw another flash and went back to bed. He was terrified, and slept with one eye open.´(Ryan)
‘It was the night before Christmas, cold outside, and Valerie glared out of the window, watching two children throwing snowballs.’ (Eli)
I really enjoyed reading these stories. They show that the students have great imagination and can craft suspenseful, lively and visually descriptive tales that Dickens himself would be proud of.
A special mention to Eli New, who explained, in a speech for year 7s, why Dickens’ work is still popular, and important: ‘ ..he wanted to convey a serious message, as well as entertain his readers..’
